Ilulissat Youth Hostel is run by the 100% Greenlandic owned agency World of Greenland A/S and was build in 1982. Originally the youth hostel was build to accommodate the men, who constructed the airport and when they had finished their job it was supposed to be torn down. Luckily that did not happen, and it now functions as a well-visited youth hostel.
The youth hostel is situated nearby the centre of Ilulissat and the harbour. There are 3.5 kilometres to the airport and 45 minutes of hiking to the ice fiord. Close by you will find small shops, supermarkets and, not to forget, "Bręttet" which is the local fish market.
The youth hostel contains 43 twin rooms where most of them are equipped with bunk beds.
Showers and toilets are situated nearby the rooms, and there are also access to kitchen, telephone, washing machine and living room with TV.
There will not be served any meals, but you are more than welcome to cook your own fresh-caught fish, or maybe a whale beef or seal?!
The youth hostel is not of the same high standards as in Denmark or a lot of other European countries, but the atmosphere is very nice and you will meet people from all over the world, who all have at least one thing in common - they are enthusiastic about Ilulissat and the fantastic Greenlandic nature.
